THE STORY
The story begins with Kaminara and Mohatu, the proud parents of little Uru. Uru, still a cub, falls in love with an outsider, Ahadi. Ahadi eventually takes over the pridelands, and Uru gives birth to two boys, Mufasa and Taka. As the boys grow, it becomes apparent that Mufasa will be the future king, and Taka is often thrown to the sidelines while Mufasa learns to rule; something Uru does not condone. It is said that Taka was mauled by a rhino, leaving a long scar going down his eye, and that is when he got the name “Scar”. Being cast off all of the time really bothered Scar, which is why he is so intent on killing Mufasa and taking over the Pridelands in the movies. Mufasa meets Sarabi, and they have a son named Simba together. Scar meets Zira, and they have a son named Nuka.
In the original Disney movies, Mufasa and Sarabi have a cub, Simba. Simba’s best friend is Nala, daughter of Sarafina, one of Sarabi’s friends. Simba has an uncle named Scar, who eventually kills Mufasa by pushing him off of a cliff into a herd of wildebeests. Scar blames Simba for his father’s death, and Simba runs away. Scar tells the rest of the pride that both Simba and Mufasa are dead. One day, Nala runs into Simba in the woods, while hunting. She convinces Simba to come back to his home; Pride Rock. After much consideration, Simba goes back to the Pridelands and fights Scar, once again on a cliff, only Scar falls off of the cliff and into a pit of hungry hyenas. The movie ends with Simba as king, Nala his wife, and an unnamed cub just born.
Scar met Zira, a dark lioness with an abusive father. Kuzimu, hurt Zira and killed Azola, her mother, when she was little. Zira fell madly in love with Scar, and they had plans to run away together… But Scar wanted to take over the Pridelands, since he felt denied access to the throne. Scar and Zira had one son named Nuka, who they had planned to teach to kill Mufasa’s son and become king. Nuka was not fit to be king, however, so Scar gave Zira one more chance, or else he would leave her for Nala. (Simba was “dead” at this time.) But Zira birthed a daughter, and Scar left her heartbroken. She found another lion named Kijani, who much resembled Scar, and had Kovu with him, hoping to please Scar and convince him that Kovu was his son. It worked, Scar came back to her…But then Zira watched Simba push Scar off the cliff and hated him ever since. She became obsessed with the idea of using Kovu to avenge Scar, and fought to the death.
Ereyu and an unknown lion had a daughter named Sarafina. Sarafina had a daughter named Nala and with scar, a son named Mheetu. Nala took Mheetu with her everywhere, and loved her brother very much. It is rumored that Mheetu had a love interest named Tama, but there is no proof. Nala and Mheetu encountered Scar, who had always been interested in Nala. She shushed Mheetu as he tried to defend her, but he ended up upsetting Scar and Scar killed Mheetu. This left Nala lonely and heartbroken, but fortunately she met Simba soon after, who healed her broken heart.
Zira’s daughter, Vitani, was often cast aside by her mother; especially when Kovu was born because Zira put all of her time into training him to kill Simba. Lonely Vitani went looking for attention elsewhere, when she met Simba’s son, Kopa. Kopa usually had to bring Kiara around with him, so Kiara and Vitani also became great friends. Kiara was the first to notice the budding romance between Kopa and Vitani, and she pushed them together, making them have their first kiss. Kopa liked Kiara a lot more after that. Meanwhile, Zira was trying to kill Kopa, and found him one day... Vitani found them, and distracted Zira long enough for Kopa to escape. In return, Zira clawed her daughter, leaving deep scratches. Kovu stayed up with her that night, and tried to take care of her. Vitani then ran off to join the pridelanders, and was accepted; however, Zira caught Vitani and Kopa together, and clawed him to death. News reached Simba, and he banished all of the outlanders from the pridelands. Zira and her cubs were then attacked by hyenas, and Vitani lived out the rest of her life in agony, mourning Kopa. However, in some stories, Zira threw Kopa off a cliff and he somehow survived… and he reunited with Vitani sometime in the future.
The second movie features Simba’s daughter, Kiara. Kiara meets another lion named Kovu when she is little, but their parents keep them apart. Years later, when Kiara is a young adult, she runs into Kovu again. Kovu has spent the past few years training with Zira to one day kill Mufasa, so when young love sparks, Zira jumps to use it for her own benefit. She has her other children, Vitani and Nuka, set fires to try to kill Kiara, and then sends Kovu to save her. Kiara introduces Kovu to the Pridelanders, and he is almost accepted, however they refuse to let him sleep in Pride Rock with them. Kiara and Kovu grow close, and Simba tells Kovu that he doesn’t have to be like scar. Kovu is about to come clean with the Pridelanders about Zira’s plans, but the Outlanders attack Simba before he gets the chance. Simba barely escapes, and Nuka is killed by falling logs in the process. Zira vows to avenge him, and Simba exiles Kovu. Kiara sneaks out and finds Kovu, and they decide to go back to the Pridelands to set things straight. However, when they arrive, Zira and the outlanders have attacked. Kiara and Kovu jump in between Simba and Zira, telling them that “we are one”. Vitani leads the others to Simba’s side, but Zira won’t budge. She lunges toward Simba but Kiara blocks her, and they both fall off the cliff. Kiara lands safely and tries to help the dangling Zira, but Zira claws at her and falls off the ledge. Kovu and the other outlanders are accepted into the pride and all is right once more.
